Comparison between the effects of low carb diet and intermittent fasting on the weight loss process: evidence synthesis

Introduction: Due to the excessive need for weight loss, several types of diets have appeared aiming at rapid weight loss and with greater impact on the physical, with emphasis on low carb diets (LC) and intermittent fasting (JI). Aim: To review the literature to compare the effectiveness of the two diets mentioned in the weight loss process. Method: This is an exploratory research that used the following search strategy to select articles: (diet OR diet) AND (obesity OR obesity) AND (weight loss OR “weight loss”) AND (“low carb” OR “fasting intermittent” OR “intermittent fasting”). Results: 150 articles were identified, of which only 19 met the inclusion criteria. The other articles did not compare the effects of the studied diets, but only analyzed the influence of physical exercise on weight loss. Conclusion: The data presented in this review proved to be relevant to the clinical practice of the nutritionist in order to guide on the importance of nutritional monitoring, adhering to diets in a safe manner, understanding the advantages and disadvantages of the weight loss process for the body.
