Objective: Description of the central leadership styles pointed out in the literature. Method: This is a narrative review of the literature. Results: The main leadership styles in the literature are: autocratic, democratic, and liberal, and form types. The emphasis was given to studies that included situational or environmental components to identify the leadership style exercised according to the situation arising from other theories such as transformational, transactional, interactional, and contingency. The literature points out that there is no consensus among researchers about the concept of leadership, which corroborates the existence of several theories that attribute different meanings to this competence. However, it is observed that the history of the theoretical bases of leadership styles is supported by attitudes and the vision of each professional. Considerations: The concept of leadership is still under construction. However, there are classifications, characteristics, and actions of the leader to approach its meaning, transcending the conceptual level of the theoretical bases listed in the literature.Downloads
